This safari includes 5 days and 4 nights starting from Kigali international airport to Akagera, to volcanoes and finally back to Kigali for departures.

 DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Akagera national park

Arrival: on day 1 of 5 days Rwanda gorilla safari and Akagera wildlife safari, you will be picked from Kigali international airport by Achieve Global Safaris representative and embark on a 2-3 hours’ drive to Akagera national park for dinner and overnight as you prepare to spend day 2 viewing wildlife in the park.

Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise in Akagera

Game drive in Akagera national park: on day 2 of 5 days Rwanda gorilla safari and Akagera wildlife safari, after breakfast, you will be transferred in a 4×4 safari pop-up van and set out to spend about 4-6 hours driving in this beautiful national park that is filled with natural wonders offering the best view of different wildlife species such as Leopards, buffaloes, topis, Elephants,  bird species, butterflies and a green vegetation of flora species including both savanna grasslands and woodlands. After exploring different corners of the park, will be driven to the lodge for a lunch break and relaxation.

Afternoon boat cruise: Boat cruise will be conducted on Lake Ihema congested with different species of birds both water birds such as rare shoebill stork and other bird species endemic to Albertine rift. As you sail on Lake Ihema, keep your eyes along the shore for an opportunity to see different mammals as they flock the shore to drink some water. After boat cruise, you will be transferred to the lodge again for dinner and overnight sleep.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes national park

Transfer to volcanoes national park: Day 3 is yet a transfer day from Akagera national park to the land of endangered mountain gorillas. On day 3 of 5 days Rwanda gorilla safari and Akagera wildlife safari, you will be served breakfast at leisure there after check out of the lodge and meet your driver for a ride to volcanoes national park which will take you about 6 hours’ drive with a stopover at the park headquarters for gorilla trekking permit before proceeding to the lodge.  Once you arrive at the lodge, you will check, be served with lunch and then opt for an evening relaxation or enjoy a guided nature walk to visit the twin lakes of Burela and Ruhondo and later on return to lodge for dinner and overnight sleep.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes

Gorilla trekking: this being the long awaited day of your 5 days Rwanda gorilla safari and Akagera wildlife safari, you will wake up for breakfast, pack your drinking water and snacks, dress up in your trekking gear and be driven to the briefing grounds for a pre gorilla trekking briefing where you will be required to submit your gorilla permit before setting of to start a gorilla trekking adventure. In case you require a special gorilla family due to some reasons including fitness level, disability, old age among others, you need to communicate in advance in order to be considered during gorilla family allocation. Hire a porter to assist you in luggage carrying and hold your back during difficult trails. Once in the forest try to keep watching around in order to sight out other species that reside in the forest including Golden monkeys, elephants and other species. You will spend one hour with gorilla s taking photographs and later return to your starting point where you will be picked up and returned to the lodge as you await dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Golden monkey tracking and departures

Golden monkey tracking: this is the last day of your 5 days Rwanda gorilla safari and Akagera wildlife safari. Therefore, wake up early for breakfast and later on be transferred to the forest to trek golden monkeys which are known to be the most beautiful and cheerful primate species. Tracking golden monkeys  lasts between 2-5 hours thus you will be able to return to the lodge early enough for lunch , check out and be driven to exit the park and embark on a journey from volcanoes national park to  Kigali with an enroute visit to the genocide memorial sites. Proceed for a brief Kigali city tour before airport transfers for departures to your next destination.
