Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest national park – Canopy walkway
Depending on your location in Kigali, you will be met by our safari guide and embark on your journey to Nyungwe forest national park which is a 6-7 hours’ drive from Kigali with en-route early lunch. Proceed to the park and connect for the 2 pm canopy walk experience. You will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees; you will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving below you. Proceed to check-in your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel for mid-range option, Gisakura Visitors’ Centre for a budget option
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer to Gisenyi
On the 2nd day of your 14 Days Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya Safari, Enjoy breakfast and go for a briefing about the endangered chimpanzees before entering the forest in search of the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest with your backpack. The Chimpanzees are much easier to spot as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee tracking usually takes about 3-5 hours depending on their location. On finding them, spend an hour while taking pictures and videos.
Thereafter, transfer to Gisenyi with en-route lunch, explore the shores of lake Kivu. Thereafter, drive to your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Gorilla Lake Kivu Hotel for mid-range/ Paradise Malahide Hotel for budget option
Day 3: Boat trip on Lake Kivu – Ibya cuwa community village tour
On the 3rd day of your 14 Days Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya Safari, After breakfast, and do the boat trip on Lake Kivu if you missed out on the previous day. Thereafter drive Volcanoes national park for 2 hours to visit the Iby’cuwa cultural village for a Rwanda cultural experience. Have en-route lunch at Hotel Muhabura then transfer back to Kigali. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Le Bambou Gorilla lodge for mid-range option/Hotel Muhabura for budget option
Day 4: Golden Monkeys or Dian Fossey hike
Option 1: After an early morning breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for briefing and later enter the forest and hike while in search of the golden monkeys. Tracking the golden monkeys rewards views of other primates such as the black and white Colobus monkeys, Olive baboons among others.
Option 2 – after breakfast, connect for Dian Fossey hike. The hike rewards with visit of Dian Fossey graveyard and her home in Karisimbi.
Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park
After breakfast, check-out and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park located in the western part of Uganda with approximately 3-4 hours’ drive from Volcanoes national park via Cyanika border Rwanda-Uganda border. Upon arrival at your lodge, check-in for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Buhoma Community Rest Camp for budget/ Buhoma Haven lodge for mid-range/Mahogany Springs Lodge for luxury
Day 6: Gorilla trekking experience – Batwa community tour
On the 6th day of your 14 Days Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya Safari, Enjoy early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for briefing by the ranger guides and later head into the forest for your trek. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi takes 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. These primates roam the park freely and there is no way of telling where they will be for a particular day. On finding them, you will be allowed 1 hour to view and take photos of these gentle primates, enjoy your lunch packs and meet your driver / guide and transfer back to your lodge.
After trekking and relaxing at the lodge, spent your afternoon on a village tour visiting the Batwa community people. Return to the dinner and overnight at Lodge as above
Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park – Ishasha game drive
After breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park. It’s a 5-6 hours’ drive with en-route lunch and stop in Ishasha sector for chances of spotting the tree climbing lions before your proceed to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Pumba Safari Cottages for budget/Elephant Hub Lodge/Parkview Safari lodge for mid-range/Elephant Plains lodge for luxury
Day 8: Kasenyi morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise.
You will wake up early, have breakfast and embank for an early morning lion tracking experience where you will get to see the lions with en-route game drive in the Kisenyi region for other animals like antelopes, buffaloes, elephants, warthogs and waterbucks just to mention a few.
You will then return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will go for a launch cruise along Kazinga channel where you will get an opportunity to see a number of bird species, elephants and buffalos, hippos and crocodiles at the lake shores. Return and relax at lodge as above
Day 9: Transfer back to Kampala – city tour
On the 9th day of your 14 Days Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya Safari, Wake up early and enjoy your breakfast and embark on your journey to transfer to Kampala which is a 6-7 hours with en-route lunch and stop at Equator. Upon arrival visit the Uganda Museum, Gadaffi mosque and other places depending on time available before you connect to your hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Fairway Hotel for mid-range/Forest Cottages for budget
Day 10: Fly to Masai Mara national reserve – evening game drive
Have breakfast, connect to Entebbe airport for your onward flight to Masai Mara. Aero-link Uganda operates daily flights from Entebbe to Masai Mara. Flight to Masai Mara depart Entebbe airport at 12:15 and arrive in Masai Mara at 14:30 hours. Upon arrival at one of the allocated airstrips in Masai Mara, you will be met by your Kenya safari guide to drive you to your booked lodge for late lunch.
Later evening connects for an evening game drive which is a rewarding game viewing experience on which you will spot predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs as they try to hunt in the dark times of the night with a help of a spotlight. In the evening you will head back to your lodge, check-in and stay overnight at transfer to your reserved lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Miti Mingi Eco-Camp for budget option/AA Lodges for mid-range option
Day 11: Full day game drive in Maasai Mara
On the 11th day of your 14 Days Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya Safari, Wake up early in the morning, have breakfast and grab your packed lunch and meet your safari driver to head to the plains of Maasai Mara for a full day adventure in this stunning savannah vegetation of Masai Mara as you watch many animals in large numbers such as lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, wildebeests, zebras and many more. You will enjoy your picnic lunch and proceed for a game drive till the sun goes down. In the evening you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight at lodge as above
Day 12: Another day – Full day in Masai Mara – community tour
After breakfast, you will head to the plains of the reserve for the final morning game drive sighting more animals, after the game drive you will head back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will head to the Maasai village/Masai Loita Hills for a cultural experience. On this experience you will enjoy getting a deeper insight into the Maasai culture by interacting with the local Maasai people, be entertained by local dancers, drama and Maasai warriors; buy local Maasai items such as local Maasai Shukas, beautifully made accessories such as necklaces and earrings and taste local cuisines. After the experience, you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight at lodge as above
Optional activity; Hot air balloon – Wake early and be picked up by the air balloon team for your hot air balloon safari which starts in the early morning, just in time for sunrise. For about one hour you will be floating peacefully above the ground, with a bird’s eye view of the African bush below. The capacity for this activity is limited making this a very special and exclusive experience. Breakfast will be provided and thereafter connect back to the lodge.
Day 13: Transfer to Nairobi – City tour
After morning breakfast at your lodge, you will checkout of your lodge and embark on a journey to Nairobi city which is a 4-5 hours’ drive via Narok area where you visit the Masai market and also enjoy a Masai cultural tour. Proceed to Nairobi, after your en-route lunch, explore Nairobi city on a city tour visiting the Elephant orphanage and the Karen Blixen museum and the Boma community in Nairobi. Dinner and overnight stay in Tamarind Tree Hotel – Mid-range/67 Airport Hotel for budget
Day 14: Departure
After breakfast and depending on your departure flight arrangements, check-out of the hotel in time for your check-in departure flight time, marking the end of the safari.
