The 6 days Mount Kilimanjaro hiking safari via Machame route starts from the south, then heads east, traversing underneath Kilimanjaro’s southern ice field before climbing Uhuru peak.
Detailed Itinerary of the 6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Hiking Safari via Machame route
Day 1: Machame Gate ‘’1790M’’ – Machame Camp ‘’3010M’’
On day 1 of the 6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Hiking Safari via Machame route, depending on your point of location, you will be collected by our professional Tanzania driver guide and transfer you to Kilimanjaro National Park.
While your guide is registering, you can adventure the mountain team preparing, it is always impressive on how to access the top of the mountain.
Once this is all packed up, your adventure will start; after a few minutes, you will be deep within the forest with ancient trees, mosses, ferns, and black and white colobus monkeys climbing in the tree tops.
After 5 to 6 hours you will access Machame camp located just above the forest line at 3000 meters.
Upon arrival, the porters have already set up your tents and warm water for washing will be ready.

Day 2: Machame Camp ‘’3010M’’ – Shira Camp ‘’3845M’’
Wake up early to start your day activity after breakfast. You will take a path that steepens and the vegetation changes into a moorland with shrubs like hardy Ericas.
On day 2 of the 6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Hiking Safari via Machame route, the hike will be shorter than the previous day, and by mid-afternoon, you will arrive at the campsite at the Shira Plateau.
From the camp, you will enjoy spectacular views of the mountain and evening light on the rock face and glacier of Kibo volcano as the sun sets.

Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower Hut ‘’4640M’’ – Barranco Camp ‘’3950M’’
On day 3 of the 6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Hiking Safari via Machame route, will be for ups and downs. You will ascend almost 700 meters but descend again after accessing the imposing Lava Tower ‘’4640meter’’.
This will help with acclimatization as you will access a height of over 4500 meters. You will hike through different vegetation zones. After making it to Lava Tower the path traverses Barranco Valley dotted with weird-looking scenarios.
Barranco camp is accessed after 6 to 7 hours. When we consider the most beautiful camp on the mountain, the camp is located just below the imposing Barranco Wall. Rest and dinner.

Day 4: Barranco Camp ‘’3960 M’’ – Barafu Camp ‘’4640Meter’’
On this day, you will scale the Barranco Wall while using your hands and feet. Safety is paramount and you will be secured if necessary, though it looks more difficult than it actually is.
The hiking trails continue with many up and down sections, while crossing a few streams, winding and climbing stopping for lunch in the Karanga valley.
After lunch, you will take another 2 to 3 hours climb before you reach Barafu camp ‘’4640meter’’.
In the night, take a lot of fluids, try to eat, and go to bed early to rest enough before tomorrow’s summit trek.

Day 5: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak ‘’5895m’’- Mweka Camp ‘’3080M
On this day, you will be awakened in the midnight hours with a cup of tea and delicious snacks. You will be dressed warmly and geared with a headlight and your daypack will set off in the darkness.
After 5 to 7 hours of the pole, you will access the rim of the crater, Stella Point. Another 2 hours will take slowly along the crater’s edge and you will arrive at the summit named Uhuru Peak ‘’5895M’’
Taking down over the surrounding landscape below in the early morning light will make you feel on top of the world. You have now accessed the ‘’Roof of Africa’’.
The descent should be easy but dusty, the volcanic ash will then have defrosted. Climbing back on the same route you will arrive at Barafu Camp within a few hours where the porters are waiting with food and tea.
After resting for an hour or two, you will then continue down to reach Mweka Camp ‘’3080m’’ for your overnight stay.

Day 6: Mweka Camp ‘’3080M –Mweka Gate ‘’1630M’’- MOSHI
On your last day, after breakfast, the crew celebrates your achievement with a traditional song as part of their farewell ceremony well presented with their tips. You will set off and descend into the moist green forest, it should take about 3 hours to reach the gate.
Return to your hotel for a hot shower and cold beers. You can celebrate your great achievement. End of trip.
