Ugandan snacks you should try out on your visit to Uganda 2024 : Are you planning to visit Uganda anytime soon or in the near future? Whatever your reason is for visiting, whether it is a safari or business or school or anything else, we want to interest you in some Ugandan snacks we feel you should try on your stay in Uganda. These snacks are very common in most Ugandan communities and are available in most hotels and places of accommodation. And they are:-

  1. Chapatti

The chapattis are circular like snacks usually served with team or eaten on the side as a top up for a meal. Sometimes in our different communities people eat chapatis with a sauce as food. They are made of baking  flour mixed with water and some other nice spices of choice then fried with oil. Make sure you get yourself a chapatti on your Uganda visit.

  1. Rolex

The most popular snack in kampala and Uganda. A Rolex is a chapatti wrapped with eggs. This snack is a delicacy of Uganda, from the local communities to the modern hotels and restaurants you will find this chapatti wrap on high demand. It is so popular that different chefs keep finding more tricks and spices to add to the wrap to make it even bigger.

  1. Samosa

The samosas have a chapatti like body folded to look like a triangle and then in the fold there are either peas, rice, vegetables, meats you name it. They are deep fried to get the texture and then served. They are best taken with tea so you will find them a lot during breakfast time or evening tea time.

  1. Mandazi

These are sweet donut like snacks that are made with flour and sugar or sweetener and deep fried and served with tea or any other drink.

  1. Gonja

Also known as plantain; is a banana like snack that is served either roasted, boiled or deep fried. It can be served with tea or as a top up on a meal. It is sweet like bananas but not just quite.

  1. Gonja crisps

When the raw gonja is dried them cut into small pieces and deep fried you get gonja crisps. These gonja crisps are good snacks for like a road trip or just a chill. They are good to munch on causally.

  1. Maize

As you hear maize, maize is a snack usually given for evening tea or breakfast. The maize is grown in the garden and them roasted or boiled before it is served.

  1. Nsenene

Nsenene or grasshoppers. These are Ugandan delicacies especially their season November and December. You will find these creature snacks almost everywhere. They can be eaten with tea, juice or water or anything. But you can also just snack on them the way you feel rignt.

The nsenene are very sought after during their season sometimes you have to book them in advance. But they are really delicious.

  1. Ugandan Pancakes

The Uganda pancakes are very different for the American and British pancakes. These ones are made of a mixture of bananas and cassava flour mingled together  and then deep fried. These sweet snacks are very delicious when hot and you can take them with tea, water, juice or anything of your choice.

  1. Fried cassava

Deep fried cassava is another delicious snack take with tea or any other drink at anytime of the day. Its literally cassava just deep fired. Some people however even prefer the cassava boiled for a snack. Cassava is also a staple food in the country so it can also be served as a meal.

Other snacks are yams, cookies, daddies Roasted gnuts, Roasted pumpkin seeds, Hard corns Sim-sim and others.
