List of top adventure activities to do in Uganda : Uganda offers a variety of activities to do during Uganda safaris in the country and some of the top adventure activities to do include the following;
- Bungee Jumping
When visiting Uganda, bungee jumping can be done in Jinja and it is among the adventure activities that tourists take part in.
Bungee jumping in Uganda is done along the River Nile and although it involves jumping from a high platform of about 44 meters, it is a safe activity to do during a tour in the country. A cord is tied to both legs of the individuals before they jump into the Nile.
The necessary safety equipment is also provided to tourists before they leap off the platform which is raised over the Nile water and photography is also part of this experience in Jinja. After the jump to the Nile, tourists are picked up by a waiting boat.
- White Water Rafting
Another exciting adventure activity to take part in when visiting Uganda is white water rafting which is also carried out in Jinja.
White water rafting is also done on the River Nile in Jinja and this activity is organized by different companies such as Raft Uganda which provide necessary equipment for rafting and also brief tourists before they take part in the activity,
There are different levels of rapids which tourists can go through during the white water rafting activity and this depends on the skills of the individuals. Each level presents a different challenge of rapids as tourists paddle through the Nile.
- Mountain climbing and Hiking
Mountain climbing and hiking are also some of the adventure activities to do when visiting different parts of Uganda.
Some of the popular hiking destinations in Uganda include Mount Rwenzori which is the highest mountain in the country also referred to as the mountain of the moon which has different ranges that tourists can hike through to get to the highest summit which is the Margherita peak.
Other destinations of hiking include Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda, Mount Moroto, Mount Gahinga, Mount Muhabura and many others. National parks in Uganda such as Bwindi national park, Mgahinga national park and Kibale forest national park also offer hiking experiences.
- Zip-lining
Uganda also offers zip lining experiences which can be done in places such as the Mabira forest during adventure tours in the country.
The zip lining experience in Mabira forest is exciting and starts with a nature walk in the rainforest where tourists can enjoy seeing different birds and tree species as well as primates such as red tailed monkeys, grey cheeked mangabeys among others.
The zip line in Mabira forest is about 78 meters long and passes through the forest canopy. The forest has about 5 zip lines which tourists can use during the adventure activity in the eastern part of Uganda and this activity can be done in the morning and also afternoon hours daily.
- Horse Back Riding
Horse riding is also among the adventure activities to do when visiting Uganda and it can be done in locations such as Jinja and the only national park where this activity takes place is Lake Mburo national park in western Uganda.
When visiting Jinja for the horse riding experience, tourists enjoy views of the Nile and this activity can be done by both children and adults.
In Lake Mburo national park, tourists can see wildlife species such as zebras, giraffes, buffalos, impalas, warthogs and many others while on horseback around the surroundings in the park and also enjoy views of the national park at the ridges found at the destination.
- Quad Biking
Quad biking is another must do adventure activity when visiting Uganda and it is also carried out during tours in Jinja.
This activity involves exploring the dirt path in the countryside on quad bikes and is done by individuals above the age of 12 years. Quad biking experiences can take about 1 hour to 4 hours and starts with a briefing and test run on the bikes for about 30 minutes before riding into the countryside.
Riders are also grouped into categories of thee experienced riders and non experienced ones before engaging in the quad biking tours in Jinja. Safety helmets as well as overalls are also provided during this activity.
Types of bikes used during the quad biking tour are manual and automatic bikes and individuals follow in line as led by a guide at the course.
- Cycling
Cycling is another activity which can be done around Uganda and it can be done within the towns as well as in the outskirts of the city.
Some of the destinations where cycling is carried out in Uganda include Lake Mburo national park and tourists can also navigate the mountainous terrain in the country on bikes such as Mount Elgon and also the Rwenzori area.
The bikes used for this activity can be personal bikes or rented out by the tour operators planning the biking tours around Uganda.
- Kayaking and boat rides
Kayaking can also be done during adventure tours in Uganda and this activity is carried out in Jinja town along the Nile.
This activity can be done along the rapid of the Nile river and involves paddling with experienced guides and after each rapid, individuals go through calm waters. During kayaking on the Nile, tourists can also be flipped over into the water but it is safe and the guide can turn the boat back up.
Boat rides are also part of the adventure experience in Uganda and they can be done across different destinations such as on Lake Victoria, Lake Bunyonyi, along the Kazinga channel among other lakes in the country.
- Abseiling
Abseiling is done when visiting the Sipi falls in eastern Uganda and is part of the adventure activities to do in the country.
This activity involves a slow descent from a cliff hanging on a rope close to the Sipi waterfalls to the bottom of the falls and abseiling is done at the highest waterfalls at Sipi.
- Gorilla trekking
Tourists during their adventures in Uganda can also trek through the dense forests of Bwindi national park and Mgahinga national park in search for the mountain gorillas.
