Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Depending on your location in Kigali on the first day of the 2 days’ gorilla trekking safari in Uganda from Kigali, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park which takes about 4 to 5 hours’ drive passing through Katuna border in Kabale with en-route lunch. On the way, you will be amazed at a gainful view of the rolling hills in Rwanda, terraced farmlands, and beautiful landscape among others.
Arrive at the park in the afternoon, check into your reserved lodge and then go for cultural encounter where you will be the Batwa pygmes in their local community –interact with them, enjoy their amazing traditional songs and dances as well as listening to storytelling. After, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Mount Gahinga Safari Lodge – Luxury, Lake Mulehe Lodge –Mid range and Traveler Best Camp – Budget.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga National Park
After an early breakfast, you will carry packed lunch served from the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will begin gorilla trekking in the jungle in search of these rare creatures which takes about 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will have high chances to view other primate species like l’hoest monkeys, chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, and different plant species as well as notable various birds many more.
When mountain gorillas are found you will be given an hour to spend with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to observe their habits, and behaviors, watch gorillas feed, breastfeed, groom young ones, enjoy taking photos for your unforgettable encounter. After the one-hour encounter with the great mountain gorillas you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be rewarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and then drive out of the park and drive back to Kigali.
