4 Days Mgahinga National Park Safari: This 4 days , 3 nights Mgahinga Gorilla trekking, Golden Monkey tracking and Batwa trail is conducted in Mgahinga gorilla national park a home to only one habituated Nyakagezi gorilla family and yet the only destination for Golden Monkey tracking in Uganda the pearl of Africa. Mgahinga gorilla national park also offers the fascinating Batwa trail where you will spend at least 2-3 hours on forest walk with the local Batwa guise as they elaborate about how they used to live in the forest harmoniously with the endangered mountain gorillas. This 4 days Mgahinga Gorilla trekking, Golden Monkey tracking and Batwa trail will start and end in Kampala though it can as well start from Kigali Rwanda to avoid long distance drive from Kampala which is 8-9 hours’ drive from Kampala and 3 hours’ drive from Kigali Rwanda. Mgahinga gorilla national park is one of the only 2 destinations in Uganda where Gorilla trekking with another destination being Bwindi impenetrable national park also situated in south western part of Uganda and a home to the largest population of the still surviving endangered mountain gorilla. The remaining population of mountain gorillas is found in Volcanoes national park Rwanda and Virunga national park in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Detailed Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park

Transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park: On day 1 of 4 Days Mgahinga National Park Safari, be ready for a pick up from a hotel in Kampala or from the airport and transfer direct to Mgahinga gorilla national park situated in south western part of Uganda which is approximately 9 hours’ drive. Have a first stopover at the equator in Biharwe where you will stand between the Northern and southern poles and take photographs. You may also enjoy an equator experiment after which you will make a second stopover in Mbarara city for your enroute lunch in any hotel of your choice though I would recommend Igongo cultural hotel. Proceed to Mgahinga gorilla national park where you will arrive in the evening for lodge check in, dinner and overnight stay awaiting the next day’s activity.

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park

Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park: After enjoying a heavy breakfast at your lodge on day 2 of 4 days Mgahinga Gorilla trekking, Golden Monkey tracking and Batwa trail, you will be transferred to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and enough drinking water to attend the briefing by the rangers after which you will hire a porter and set off for an adventure in the forest to search for the Nyakagezi gorilla family which is the only habituated gorilla family in Mgahinga gorilla national park. This trek takes about 2-7 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and the trekking speed of the slowest trekker amongst the group. Upon finding gorillas, you will spend only one hour closely viewing the gorillas and trekking photographs then exit the forest to return to your lodge for a relaxed evening awaiting dinner and overnight sleep.

Day 3: Golden monkey tracking and Batwa trail in Mgahinga

Golden monkey tracking and Batwa trail: After breakfast on day 3 of 4 Days Mgahinga National Park Safari, pack enough water and enough food then meet your driver to be returned to the park headquarters for a briefing by rangers before entering the forest to search for the habituated golden monkeys that are only tracked with in Mgahinga gorilla national park. Upon finding these beautiful primates, you will be allowed only one hour taking photographs and later on exit the forest back to the park headquarters where you will meet with the local Batwa guides for an enroute Batwa trail learning more about the previous lifestyle of the Batwa people who were surviving in the forest through hunting and gathering. Return to your lodge once done with the batwa trail, have your dinner and overnight sleep.

Day 4: Drive to Kampala for departures

Drive back to Kampala for departures: After breakfast on day 4 of 4 days Mgahinga Gorilla trekking, Golden Monkey tracking and Batwa trail, check out of the lodge and start the Journey back to Kampala with enroute lunch in Mbarara city again. Getting to Kampala in the evening, have a city tour and connect to Entebbe international airport for a night flight back home or to the next travel destination.
